The novel follows a family on the verge of departure for Australia, where the parents have secured better professional prospects and a more hopeful future for their child. Their suitcases are packed, the decision is irreversible, yet before heading to the airport they spend one final hour with the family they are leaving behind. Over the course of sixty minutes, grief, tension, and suppressed emotions surface as an elderly couple says goodbye to their only daughter, fully aware that this farewell may be permanent. Final Hour engages with one of the most defining social realities of contemporary Turkey: emigration.
