Is there a purpose to the evil and suffering that has plagued humanity since prehistory? If none of us chose to exist, why do we still choose to have children? In a universe governed by laws, is genuine free will possible, and where do these laws come from? These questions remain compelling because they are both deeply personal (Could my life have been otherwise?) and universally significant (What is justice in a world without freedom?).
